About Us

Winchester Pediatric Clinic has been caring for children in the community for over 60 years now.

One of the founding partners, Dr. Joseph Damron Sr., began practicing pediatrics in Winchester in 1952. He came here to take over the practice of another pediatrician who was giving up medicine to become a Trappist monk. He joined clinics with another local physician who unfortunately passed away a year later, leaving Dr. Damron as the sole pediatrician in town.

The practice has steadily grown since that time. With the growth also came moves to new offices, as space became an issue. Medicine has also changed along the way. Nowadays, Winchester Pediatric Clinic strives to be the best medical home for families that it can be. We currently are one of the few physician groups that still manage the care of their hospitalized patients. All our doctors are board certified in Pediatrics and maintain admitting privileges at Winchester Medical Center. In fact, seven of our pediatricians have done a chief residency year where they were responsible for the education of training pediatricians. We have an emergency line that provides our families with answers to their most urgent questions any time of the day or night.

In addition to our regular workweek hours, we have office hours in the evenings, weekends, and holidays. We always have same day appointments available for ill children. Even if we are busy, we try to find a place in the busy schedule to take care of our families. We offer well child checks, immunizations, preschool and kindergarten physicals, camp and scout physicals, sports and college physicals throughout the year.

We feel strongly that children get the best care from their own doctor. With our extended hours and telephone coverage we hope to spare families the ordeal of urgent cares and emergency rooms except in appropriate situations.

We have developed good working relationships with most of the pediatric subspecialists in the region including the University of Virginia, Johns Hopkins, INOVA, DC Children’s Hospital and West Virginia University. This allows children with complex medical issues to receive more of their care locally with collaboration with their subspecialists instead of traveling great distances. Winchester Pediatric Clinic will be your child’s medical home on their journey through infancy, childhood and adolescence, helping them reach adulthood healthy and well.
